Esker Festival Orchestra ‘The Planets’ in Galway Cathedral

The Esker Festival Orchestra, now in its 11th year, is Ireland's most exciting peer-led orchestra, made up of Irish and international young professionals and advanced students over the age of 18. This year's performance will feature Gustav Holst’s incredible suite ‘The Planets’ and a newly commissioned ‘Earth, the Cradle of Life’ movement by Dublin based composer Tom Lane which will complete this suite. The programme also includes Edward Elgar’s Cello Concerto in E minor with rising Irish star Zoë Nagle as soloist. The programme will also include a new orchestration of Arnold Schoenberg’s ‘Six Little Piano Pieces’ to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the composer who inspired Holst to compose ‘The Planets.’ The performance will feature the 90 piece Esker Festival Orchestra and the Esker Festival Choir, all under the baton of founder and prize winning conductor Peter Joyce.
